Fishing is one of the core gathering activities in FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time, letting you catch fish to sell, cook, or use in crafting. Find out how to fish, their locations, how to unlock fishing, and how to fish efficiently by finding the sweet spot.
List of Contents
To start fishing, head to any body of water and look for a Fish Shadow. You can easily spot these as they're visibly swimming around. Just be mindful of their level, as the higher the fish's level is, the harder it will be to catch.
After spotting a Fish Shadow, simply cast your rod and wait for the fish to bite. It may take a while depending on where you cast your rod, but as soon as the fish turns around, they'll bite soon after!
Once the fish bites, immediately reel it in. As mentioned above, the best way to tell when a fish is about to bite is when it starts facing the bait. So make sure to watch the fish's behavior before reeling.
Precisely reeling in after the bobber sinks performs a Counter Hook. This helps you start reeling with the fish at lower health, saving SP in the process!
While reeling, you have the choice to either perform a Normal or a Powerful Reel. As with other Gathering Life mechanics, using anything Powerful will drain your SP! Only use it when you've found a sweet spot or are preparing for an EXCELLENT reel.
To get an EXCELLENT reel when fishing, simply drain the fish's health bar to at least 5%. Once it's low enough, use a Powerful Reel and it should result in an EXCELLENT reel.

You can find the Sweet Spot in Fishing by simply changing the angle of your reel. Keep adjusting your angle until it says SWEET, then keep reeling from that direction to drain the fish's health bar further.
Keep in mind that spamming in the same direction can cause the fish to get angry. Keep your reels at a steady pace to prevent this.
If you do manage to anger a fish, however, it will change its direction and sweet spot, making you look for it again.
Fishes you catch can be sold for a solid chunk of Dosh, especially the rarer and larger ones. Head to any shop and offload your extra catch to line your pockets.
Your fish aren’t just good for selling, they’re delicious too! Many fish can be used as ingredients in recipes you’ll whip up with the Cook Life. Cooking dishes can restore HP and also boost some stats temporarily.
Some rare dishes even require specific fish types, so hold onto those elusive catches for when it matters.
Fishing can be unlocked by joining the Angler Life. You can change lives at the Guild, so simply talk to Auntie Anne again if you didn’t start with this life.
